PRIZE LIST

Please note: All exhibits to be on Show Grounds before 3pm on Tuesday July 13th 1999 as Judging will commence at 4pm sharp.

The Hennessy Perpetual Cup will be awarded to the person with the highest points in Baking Section A. The Gleeson Cup will be awarded to the person with the highest points in Crafts in Section B. A special prize of £25 will be awarded to the school with the highest points in the Craft Section. A special prize of £25 will be awarded to the school with the highest points in the Arts Section 55-59.

CLASS 1

The IR£4,000 Power’s Gold Label All Ireland Home Baking Championship.
Sponsored by: Power’s Gold Label

Rules and Conditions:

Each exhibitor will bake 3 items: 1. (a) Victoria Whiskey Sandwich Cake, decorated on top only with butter icing and using Power’s Gold Label Whiskey. A round 8" tin must be used. (b) Plain Soda Scones (c )Open Fruit Tart using a Summer Fruit and Shortcrust Pastry (no cream).
2. The items should be displayed as one exhibit on a base measuring 24"x 24"max. measurement.
3. Points will be awarded for texture, taste and presentation.
4. Competitors must use Power’s Gold Label Whiskey.
5. The competition is confined to amateurs, male & female, and one tray only per exhibitor at the final.
6. The items must be fresh and home-baked by the exhibitor.
7. A special class will be held at each qualifying show. The winner from each of these shows will go to the final at Tullamore Show on Sunday 13th August 2000.
8. All items will be cut at the final.
9. Each of the successful qualifiers will receive a hamper of Irish Distillers products on appearance at the final.
10. Judges decision is final at all stages of the competition.
11. Exhibits displayed at owners risk.

NOTE: At Final, EXHIBITS MUST BE IN PLACE BY 10.45 a.m. and may not be removed before 5.15 p.m. Marquee open from 8.30 a.m.

CLASS 2

The National Dairy Council IR£2,500 All Ireland "Cheese a Quiche" Competition

Rules and Conditions:

1. Competitors are asked to "Cheese a Quiche".
2. The Quiche must include cheese.
3. The size of the quiche can be anything up to and including 25 cm/10" diameter and must be displayed on an area not larger than 1 foot square.
4. The competition is confined to amateurs, male & female.
5. A special class will be held at each selected show.
6. Two quiches to qualify from each of the selected shows and these winners will go forward to the All-Ireland Final in Tullow on 20th August 2000.
7. Only one entry per exhibitor will be allowed at the Final.
8. Each of the successful qualifiers will receive a set of 4 Bandon Pottery Mugs to the value £30 on appearance at the Final.
9. Judges decision is final at all stages of the competition.

BAKING SECTION - ADULT

Class 7: Dundee Cake: (Recipe)

6ozs Butter, 5ozs Sugar, 7ozs Flour, ½ozs Mixed Peel, 3ozs Sultanas, 3ozs Raisins, 3ozs Currants, 3 Eggs, 2ozs Ground Almonds, 1oz Blanched and Split Almonds, 1oz Glazed Cherries, finely grated rind of lemon, 1 tablespoon of sherry. Method: Cream together butter and sugar, add the sifted flour and beaten eggs alternatively beating well. Mix the prepared fruit, ground almonds and sherry. Put into a lined and greased 7" round tin and place blanched and split almonds and sherry on top. Bake in baking oven for 1½ to 1½ hours.
